The Romance Noire Book Club (RNBC) started as a germ of an idea.
After searching, without success, for an online forum dedicated solely to
the reading and promotion of African American and multicultural romance authors and their novels I decided to establish
an interactive group for this genre but was at a loss for a name. As always, I looked to my ever growing library
for ideas and inspiration. The 'Noire' in the name of the book club is spelled with an 'e' because it was taken from the title
Erotique Noire: Black Erotica, a series of erotic essays
and short stories which was published in 1992. The title leapt out at me. Thus, Romance Noire Book Club
was created September 2, 2000.
RNBC is an internet book club. It was created when African American and Multiculural romance novels were becoming 'contemporary'
popular. Romance authors and fans needed a place to call home and share their thoughts. RNBC serves as a platform and
networking forum for readers to meet their favorite authors and for authors to meet their fans through one-on-one dialogue.
We needed a place to discuss African American and Multicultural romance with others who enjoy contemporary, historical
and inspirational romance novels with beauty, excitment and a little color.
In 1995 while attending a fundraiser, I purchased two romance novels Scandalous by Donna Hill and The Color of Love
by Sandra Kitt. Little did I dream that I would be so quickly swept away the sheer beauty, depth and magic of this fascinating
genre. My respect and admiration
for romance authors continues to grow.
